Automatic translations, better known as machine translations, have experienced something of a resurgence lately. Today, there have been numerous advances in the field of translation, including different programs used for translation. These advances, specifically the programs, have simplified the lives of translators and have shortened delivery times, which has enhanced both productivity and quality (consistency, terminology, etc.) .
Due to the recent economic crisis, whose effects the translation industry was unable to save itself from, automatic translations are experiencing accelerated growth. Logically, this is due to the economic needs of companies to keep their costs down. But, is that what they are really achieving?
What I mean here is the the initial costs may be lower, but over the long term, quality and accuracy decrease, which means we have to consider and analyze many aspects: Are we really communicating what the original text says? Will a machine be capable of transmitting the way of thinking and the different meanings that each word can have, depending on its usage?
This is why it is important to think carefully about the type of translation to pay for and determine which best serves our needs and the possible consequences that may result.
